Market drivers

Growth, premiumization and undersupply

Tequila’s aging process is short, tied to the 7-year growth cycle of its key ingredient, agave. For example, categories like Blanco (aged 0-2 months) can mature into high-value Extra Añejo within just three years, providing investors with robust returns.

We expect continued price increases over the next 3-5 years due to evolving supply-demand dynamics. Tequila, currently the fastest-growing global spirit, has outpaced whiskey sales in the US and is becoming the premium spirit of choice. This trend is driving a surge in demand for aged tequilas, such as Añejo and Extra Añejo.

However, supply challenges, including lengthy growth cycles and stringent regulations, limit the ability to meet this rising demand.

Demand for tequila is set to soar from $16.5 billion in 2023 to $42.5 billion by 2032.

Patron tequila was acquired by Barcardi in 2018 for $5.1 billion.

Super-premium tequilas are fueling growth, commanding 40% of volume and 55% of value by 2026.

George Clooney founded tequila brand Casamigos in 2013 and sold it to Diageo in 2017 for $1 billion.
